EDEM signs partnership with the Government of Mato Grosso do Sul

The partnership emerged in 2019 after a meeting of the president of AGRAER Mr. André Nogueira Borges (Agency for Agrarian Development and Rural Extension) with the executive director of EDEM , Mr. Luiz Antonio Vessani.

In a second conversation between researchers from EDEM and researchers from Agraer, at the Agraer Research Center in Campo Grande-MS, it was decided to sign the partnership and

AND DEVELOP A RESEARCH PROJECT THAT WOULD BE CALLED “Effect of Natural Phosphate from Rocha de Bonito on the consortium between Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piatã and Stylosanthes spp.”

What is the partnership about?

We are currently working on two projects:

  1. Effect of Natural Phosphate from Rocha de Bonito on intercropping between Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piatã and Stylosanthes spp.
  2. Effect of different doses of Reactive Natural Phosphate of Bonito (FNRB) and Natural Potassium (KMC – Rocha Nefelina Sienito) in pasture of Brachiaria Brizantha cv. Piatã.

Effect of Natural Phosphate from Rocha de Bonito

The project Effect of Natural Phosphate from Rocha de Bonito in the consortium between Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piatã and Stylosanthes spp. it has been in progress since 2019, and aims to evaluate the effect of FRNB on the production of green dry mass of forages; Quantify the soil availability of the elements that make up the FNRB , especially P 2 O 5 over the years of evaluation; determine the biological activity of the soil and correlate it with the availability of chemical elements; and to determine the nutritional value of forages according to the different treatments with FNRB.

Coordinated by Researcher Eng. Agr. doctor [SC1] Sandro Cardoso from Agraer has collaborating researchers Eng. Agr. doctor Edimilson Volpe/AGRAER; Eng. Agr. MSc. Antonino H. Dias Neto/AGRAER; Zootechnician Dr. Marta Pereira da Silva/EMBRAPA-CNPGC; Biologist Dr. Rodiney de Arruda Mauro/EMBRAPA-CNPGC and Professor Eng. Agr. doctor Jolimar Antonio Schiavo/UEMS.

Until then, two technical communications were published addressing the results obtained so far. In December of this year, the third technical communication will be issued, and will be made available on the AGRAER website. In addition, we will publish a scientific article published at the end of the research, in 2024.

Of the results

Methodology

The experimental design used is randomized blocks (DBC) with five treatments and six replications, totaling 30 plots and 3,000 m 2 of useful area.

Parcial results

The total dry mass production indicated significance in the analysis of variance and regression. The graph below shows the result of the sum of five evaluations, including the rainy and dry periods. In this sense, there is a total maximum production for the period in question, estimated at 10,074kg.ha¹ of forage dry mass at the dose of 1,374kg.ha¹ of FNR.

Regarding the concentration of phosphorus in the soil, two methods were used: Mehlich and Resin. Analogously, the results show a constant increase in the concentration of phosphorus in the soil as the amounts of FNR are increased, providing effective correction.

The ongoing research presented the following conclusions as per the technical communication published in 2021:

  1. Natural Reactive Phosphate from Bonito increases the production of forage dry mass (kg ha -1 ), phosphorus concentrations in the soil (mg dm -3 ) and plant height (cm).
  2. Under the current conditions and stage of the experiment, a dose of 1,466 kg ha -1 of Reactive Natural Phosphate from Bonito can be considered for phosphorus correction in the soil in pastures.

Effect of different doses of Bonito Natural Reactive Phosphate (FNRB) and Natural Potassium (KMC)

The project Effect of different doses of Reactive Natural Phosphate of Bonito (FNRB) and Natural Potassium (KMC – Rocha Nefelina Sienito) in pasture of Brachiaria Brizantha cv. Piatã is in the implementation phase with an implementation period between 2022 and 2024.

This project is funded by FUNDECT and EDEM is a partner in supplying the FNRB and the KMC . This project should bring even more differentiated scientific results when compared to the previous project, mainly by evaluating combinations of different fertilizer doses (FNRB, KMC and Chemical) measuring their effects on plants and soil.

Also coordinated by Researcher Dr. Sandro Cardoso from Agraer, has collaborating researchers Dr. Edimilson Volpe/AGRAER; MSc. Antonino H. Dias Neto/AGRAER; Professor Dr Tatiana da Costa Moreno Gama Lopes/UCDB and Professor Dr. Jolimar Antonio Schiavo/UEMS.
